"Westminster Synagogue is my spiritual home. I always feel better for participation in its services and activities. It appeals both to my intellect and emotion. It is a community of clear and strong principles which are nevertheless broad enough to accommodate different individual approaches without losing a sense of likemindedness; from this, all may derive moral strength and friendship within their Judaism."  From a Survey of Members

Community Profile

Our community comprises close to 700 adult members, or 480 families.  There are almost 400 children in the community, with over two dozen babies born in the past two years.  Roughly one third of our members are below age 44, a third between 45 and 64, and a third over 65.  Although many of our members were born in England, a significant number have settled in Britain from as far as North America to Russia, and South Africa to Australia, making it a remarkable, multi-cultural, multi-lingual community.

Members come from all walks of life, from the traditional and expected professions to new age ones.  Those in the arts, entertainment and media worlds mix witht those in the worlds of science and medicine. Many are company directors or self employed.

Kent House is situated in SW7 and one quarter of our members share this postcode.  Most of our members live north of the river, with a significant number coming from the south side of Hyde Park between Chiswick and St James. Surprisingly, many members travel great distances to belong to our special community, from as far as Sussex and Surrey, Hertfordshire and Bucks.  Many members retain their membership if they are transferred or move abroad.

For more information about our special community, contact the rabbi through the Synagogue office or go to the Membership section of the website.
