He who visits the sick causes him to recover"  (Talmud, Nedarim 40a).

The mitzvah of bikur cholim (visiting the sick) has the purpose of bringing comfort, company in loneliness, and of helping to provide for the needs of those who are sick and their families,. Our Rabbis will visit people in hospitals and at  home as well, if we are notified.

We also would like to encourage individuals in our community to understand that the mitzvah of bikur cholim is not just for  the Synagogue staff, but also for every individual Jew. We especially need help in forming connections  with those who live in aged care facilities, who struggle with isolation from the community.

If you know of someone who needs contact or if you can join our group of volunteers who make visits to homes of aged care, please contact our Rabbis at the Synagogue office or email secretary@westminstersynagogue.org.
