“There is something genuinely special about Westminster Synagogue and its values that I have yet to see represented elsewhere in modern Jewish communities in Britain. I think there are many out there who feel isolated and frustrated by some of the more stereotypical approaches to Judaism. Do we realise how special it is not to have ‘plaques above the door’ or to welcome mixed marriages and children thereof in such a sympathetic and responsible way? There is so much we could and should stand proud and shout loud about” from a Survey of Members
The Synagogue offers a wonderful combination of the traditional and the progressive. It is a warm and welcoming community, free from dogma. It is completely independent of the Reform, Liberal and Masorti movements although our rabbis keep close ties with all their progressive colleagues through membership of both Liberal and Reform Judaism movements, as well as with colleagues in the US and Israel.
Although a central London synagogue, one third of our membership comprises families with children, and the community is very proud of its learning programmes for adults, teens and children and for those who wish to become Jewish by choice. Kent House also houses a full-time independent nursery.
Westminster Synagogue is simply dedicated to the well-being of its members and to their extended families. Our rabbis would be delighted to meet with you to give you more information on how to join our community. Call the Synagogue office at 020 7584 3953 to make an appointment or simply email rabbi@westminstersynagogue.org.
