Annual WS Czech Scrolls Memorial Service

Friday, 28 November, 2025 8 Kislev 5786

6:30 PM - 8:00 PMSanctuary

On Friday 28th November, we will hold our annual commemorative service organised by the Westminster Synagogue Scrolls Committee to honour the memory of the Jewish communities of Hořovice, Horažd’ovice and Přeštice, who perished during the Shoah. We are proud to read from their scrolls at Bar and Bat Mitzvah and festival services, ensuring that their legacy lives on and that this service becomes both a remembrance of the past and a celebration of Jewish life today.

In recent years, we have also included the community of Boskovice, from which our rare Haftarah Scroll originates. We are currently raising funds to repair this scroll so that it too can be used by our members and continue the legacy of Boskovice’s Jews.

Join us for this special service, beginning at 6.30pm. During the memorial, we will recall each family lost from our Scroll Towns by reading their names aloud — a deeply moving ceremony led by members of our community.

After the service, at around 8.00pm, we invite you to join us for refreshments as we raise a glass in their memory. At this time, there will also be the opportunity to have a short tour of the Memorial Scrolls Trust Museum located on the third floor of our building. The MST is the charity which has loaned our Torah Scrolls and who care for the 1,564 Czech Scrolls which were rescued in 1964. If you would like to join this tour to learn more about their story, please do let us know and we would be happy to arrange.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to be in touch.
