Purim Megillah Reading, Spiel and Celebrations

Monday, 2 March, 2026 13 Adar 5786

4:30 PM - 9:00 PMGround and First Floor

It's almost that time of the year, when the YAYs & BOOs will erupt at Westminster Synagogue. This year, our Kent House Players will take on a Purim Spiel inspired by My Fair Lady, and With a Little Bit of Luck we will see our Esther stand up for what is right once more.

We always celebrate this festival in style at Westminster Synagogue, and we have a long-held tradition for terrific Purim spiels and creative ways of telling the story of how Esther saved the Jewish people in ancient Persia. This year will be no different. We have lots of fun plans and we hope that you can join us - Wouldn't It Be Loverly!?

4:30pm - Children's Activities

Join us at 4:30pm for lots of fun Stories & Games with Nia, the amazing Children’s Entertainer from previous festival celebrations. We are excited to have Nia back for Purim for another party.

For those who are more into arts crafts, they will also have plenty to do!

To top it off we'll have Face painting and (biodegradable) face glitter for all ages.

5:45pm - Costume Parade

We can't wait to see you strut your outfit on the red carpet! We encourage everyone to dress up, whether you've experienced many Purim festivals or this is your first, it's a great part of the event seeing everyone's creations.

6:00pm - Megillah of Many Tongues & Purim Spiel

Our beloved Megillah of Many Tongues is back, as we tell the story of Esther in many different languages, celebrating our diverse community.

It's always exciting to hear the Yay and Boo's sound from the community even hearing the paragraph in a language not everyone understands.

As soon as the reading is done it will be time for our Purim Spiel Troupe to take to the stage as they retell the story in a hilarious way and great songs.

This year we'll encounter some familiar and maybe not so familiar characters and enjoy some amazing tunes.

7:00pm - Festive Food & Drink

After all the excitement, we can all do with a bite to eat and drink, with a chance to socialise with your friends and family.

7:30pm - Full reading of the Megillah

For those who don't want the evening to end, we're delighted to once again hold a full reading of the Megillah in Hebrew in the Reinhart Library. This will be a chance to explore the whole story with all the chapters in full, led by Danny Perez.

There are lots of ways to be involved in our Purim celebrations. If you would like to: Welcome people to the building, help with face painting, hand out shots (to adults), help decorate, hand out booklets etc. Click here to sign up on our Volunteer rota, or reach out to Louise here.

Sorry, Registration has ended.
