Film Screening: The Song of Names + Q&As

Thursday, 27 February, 2020 2 Adar 5780

7:00 PM - 10:30 PMEveryman Baker Street

We are delighted to welcome Westminster member Jonah Hauer-King, who plays the young adult Dovidl, to join us for a Q & A after the screening, alongside producer Nick Hirschkorn.

In pre-WW2 London, Dovidl,  a 9 year old Polish Jewish refugee and gifted violin prodigy comes to live with a gentile family in Hampstead who provide him with music tuition, Kosher food, and an English brother, Martin, of the same age.  As Europe erupts into war, Dovidl  loses touch with his family in Poland and agonises over their fate.  Aged 21, hours before a debut concert performance that will launch an international career, Dovidl vanishes without trace, causing shame and ruin for his adoptive English family.  Thus begins Martin’s quest to find his vanished brother, and Dovidl’s journey into the deepest questions of how we balance our responsibilities to ourselves with our responsibilities towards others, and the role of faith in finding his answer.
