WS Czech Scrolls Commemorative Evening

Tuesday, 24 November, 2020 8 Kislev 5781

6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

On Tuesday, 24th November we will hold our annual commemorative evening organised by Westminster Synagogue Scrolls Committee to remember the lives of those from the towns of Horažďovice and Přeštice whose fate ended with starvation and death. We are proud that we read from these scrolls on the occasions of Bar/Bat Mitzvah and festival services, thus making this service a celebration of life, looking into the future with optimism whilst remembering the past and we are delighted that we are able to hold such an important service during this troubled time.

We hope you can join us for this night of remembrance, this year held online, featuring music from the children of our community. We are honoured that this year’s address will be given by Doc. PhDr. Vojtěch Blodig, CSc., vice president of the Terezín Memorial, along with a Virtual Tour. The key mission of the Terezin Memorial, the only institution of its kind in the Czech Republic, is to commemorate the victims of the Nazi political and racial persecution during the occupation of the Czech lands in World War II. Dr. Blodig will be exploring the art of Terezín, featuring photos from Terezín and will be answering questions after his talk.

We will be reading out names of families who lost their lives during the service. This is normally done by members of the congregation and we hope to continue this this year. Please do let us know below if you would like to read out a family's name during the service.

Sorry, Registration has ended.
