Pre-Service Oneg: Celebrating our First Year of Amazement

Saturday, 18 October, 2025 26 Tishrei 5786

9:45 AM - 10:25 AMRabbinic Library

For our First Oneg of the new year we will take some time to celebrate the past year of Pre-Service Parsha, and we'll hope you come and start the new year of learning with our festive morning!

Why is Torah composed of five books rather than four? In God in Search of Man, Abraham Joshua Heschel writes that the fifth book of Devarim gives humankind, through Moses, a chance to speak. Torah thus ends with an acknowledgment that we are partners in His creation. Heschel uses the term "radical amazement" to describe what we receive when we actively seek God's presence.

A small group of us have been experiencing this radical amazement every Shabbat at 9.45am. Each week we are amazed by the enthusiasm and insights of our small and cheerful group, who take turns to lead a discussion on the week's Parsha.

Everyone is invited to join us and Rabbi Kamila on Saturday 18th October at 9.45am in the Rabbinic Library as we celebrate our first year of Parsha study with a fine breakfast and even finer fellowship.

If you are able to come a bit early to help us set up, please let us know in the big below as well.
