HHD Volunteering
Our community thrives when members take on small acts of service - which is why we ask each member to volunteer at least twice a year. The High Holy Days are a great way to get involved - read on for more information on being a Welcomer, helping in services, helping in the kitchen and more!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to be in touch.
HHD Mailout
As we get ready for the High Holy Days, we send out information and tickets to our members. Understandably this is a big undertaking and many hands make light work! If you can lend an hour or two of your time to help with this mailout it is greatly appreciated.
The date is still to be confirmed, but once it is, you can click on this link to sign up!
Silver Cleaning
Being the holiest days of the year, we ensure our Judaica is shining and ready for the High Holy Days. As such, every year, members come into Kent House to polish our silverware in the days leading up to Rosh Hashanah. We'll supply all of the materials, but if you can lend your strength to making sure our mantels and silverware shines - we'll be beaming too!
The date is still to be confirmed, but once it is, you can click on this link to sign up!
Welcome Team
Volunteer here
The role of the Welcome Team is simple: To be a warm face that people connect with when they come into our building and help them find their way
"I appreciate the welcoming team for being hospitable to me as it was my first time and didn't know what to expect, and their friendliness made me feel at ease."
Our aim is for all members and visitors alike to feel welcome and at ease in our building, no matter their age, nationality or reason for coming to us. It can often be daunting entering a building that you have never been to before (or don’t attend often), so we invite people to volunteer for this role, ensuring the first thing visitors and members see as they enter the building are warm, welcoming faces
If you are able to volunteer, please do let us know what time/dates you are free by signing up here and going to the date that works best for you!
Security
Volunteer Here
For the High Holy Days we will have two types of Security volunteers. A thorough brief will be given ahead of time.
Security Volunteer outside the synagogue
Similar to the people helping out on Shabbat we will have security volunteers positioned on Rutland Gardens helping our professional security officers with access control whilst keeping an eye on the area.
Volunteer Monitoring our CCTV
We will also have a member monitoring our CCTV, keeping an eye on the streets, from the Office.
Helping in the Kitchen
Volunteer here
Over the festivals, we need extra helpers in the kitchen, whether this is cutting up honeycake on Erev Rosh Hashanah, cutting up apples on Rosh Hashanah, or pitching in for the Breaking of the Fast - all help is appreciated.
To volunteer, simply sign up here and head to the date that works for you - and whilst your at it, you may wish to sign up for a slot on our Shabbat Kiddush Rota!
Helping in Services
Volunteer here
During our services there are two key roles that we ask members to volunteer whilst they're in the room - both of which will guarantee a reserved seat during services.
Seat of Responsibility
The seat of responsibility is a reserved chair by each of the doors into the Sanctuary. If you volunteer for this role, you will be the one to close the door in case of an invacuation and opening the door/assisting with evacuation in case of a fire.
Page Turning
At the back of the Sanctuary we have an easy to use device that shows which page of the service we're currently on, so that latecomers are able to easily join in when the arrive. If you choose this role, you simply have to follow the service and change the page numbers as needed.
Stacking Chairs
After the Family and Tots services, and at the end of Yom Kippur, it's really useful to have members help the team stack chairs and tidy away. If you can volunteer for this role, select "clearing up" on the appropriate days.
For any of these roles click on this link and select the appropriate date/role.
Volunteering at Events
Whether it's our Erev Rosh Hashanah Dinner on the 22nd September, our Sukkot Afternoon Tea on 8th October or anything in between - our events run so much more smoothly when volunteers are able to give up a bit of time to help set up and clear up.
If you're able to help out for any of these events, we really appreciate it. Click on this link to check out the rota and see if you can lend a hand.
